Bryukhovychi surveillance station of Astronomical Observatory of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv was built in the early 60's. It then began to actively monitor the Sun. Then it evolved, expanding the scope of its research activities, bringing the installation of rangefinder telescope, which later received the status of “National treasure of Ukraine”, which monitors the Variable Stars. We will have a closer look at it as part of this tour.

This tour is held year round, but only on the condition that the sky is cloudless during the evening. Therefore, we always reserve the right to postpone the tour for another day due to the worsening of weather conditions. We always call to inform in advance about the date and time of the next departure.

The tour is conducted by research scientist of the observatory. Depending on the season, the degree of “illumination of the sky”, etc., various celestial bodies are included into the observation. Usually we observe the surface of the Moon (if it’s visible at that specific time), Jupiter, Saturn, Mars (if any of them visible). Also, we observe different stars via the telescope, double stars, globular and dispersed star clusters, the “Andromeda Galaxy” which is next to us, and others.
